Job Description

Position Summary:

Engages in product inspections of incoming and existing Gordon Food Service (GFS)

distribution center inventory. Conducts daily cooler inventory audits to verify products meet

GFS shelf life and quality standards prior to selection. Proactively communicates inventory and

quality conditions to the analysts to ensure appropriate actions to reduce potential liquidation and

spoilage issues.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs quality inspections on incoming loads of fresh produce during scheduled work hours. Trains, coordinates and monitors other staff performing inspection activity as appropriate.

  • Monitors produce quality levels from the point of GFS receipt until shipment to GFS,customers by performing inspections of on-hand inventory. Reject incoming product and prevents receipt and sale of product unfit-for-use to assure customer satisfaction.

  • Performs daily cooler inspections to verify quality and dates of perishables prior to pick.

  • Authorizes proper product disposition and inventory adjustment activity as a result of pulling or transferring products.

  • Proactively communicates to the Logistics Analyst and Category Manager items that pose a liquidation or spoilage risk.

  • Proactively communicates refusals and failed deliveries to sales force in a timely manner to ensure advance notification.

  • Promptly investigates consumer complaints, product, packaging or labeling issues at the request of Enterprise Quality Assurance.

  • Prepares, maintains, and enforces Distribution Center quality systems and procedures with assistance from Enterprise Quality Assurance.

  • Adheres to the mission and cornerstone values and applicable practices of the organization.

  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature and attending related conferences, seminars, etc.

  • Maintains peer relationships in the field to share issues and ideas.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Must be able to communicate clearly in a professional manner.

  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills, and good interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills to represent the department and speak at minor functions.

  • Must have knowledge of food safety and quality auditing standards and techniques.

  • Must have knowledge of food regulations (FDA, USDA, and/or CFIA).

  • Must be able to work 60 hours or more per week including weekends.
