Overview

Halo Aeronautics, a Hush Aerospace & By Light Professional IT Services Joint Venture, is seeking experienced Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) pilots to join our team in the Virginia Beach, VA area. Pilot experience with First Person View (FPV) small UAS are preferred. The pilots will be responsible for a full spectrum UAS tasks from design, manufacturing, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and repair in addition to piloting UAS test flights, customer operations and conducting customer pilot training. Knowledge of FAA and military regulations is essential. Pilots must be able to operate, and lead students in safe and effective operations.

The ideal candidate is hardworking, competitive, and driven to succeed with a natural sense of urgency with ability to integrate into a highly innovative, fast-moving small UAS company. A self-starter with a reputation for being an effective team player and team leader who proactively looks to improve and add efficiency to current processes. Exercises sound judgment in the decision-making process with a collaborative goal to provide consistent customer service.

A typical workday consists of overcoming problems, answering questions, and addressing needs associated with complex projects or studies to develop or alter UAS and other Unmanned Systems. The candidate will serve as a UAS technician responsible for the full spectrum of UAS platform manufacturing, software configuration, troubleshooting, repair, customer support and training. An ideal candidate will have First Person View (FPV) drone pilot experience.

Responsibilities
    Fast-learning, UAS technician skilled in all facets of UAS parts manufacturing, platform assembly, software configuration, troubleshooting, repair, customer support and training.
  • Professionally communicate and collaborate with Government personnel involved in unmanned systems operations.
  • Coordinate and troubleshoot technical issues with UAS parts suppliers and customers. Familiar and conversant with military operational terminology.
  • Soldering and circuit board assembly.
  • Operate additive manufacturing systems (3D printers).
  • Ability to translate broad guidance to achieve results, working independently for days or weeks.
  • Quickly and flexibly adapt to changing requirements and conditions.
  • Troubleshoot RF and other communications systems supporting UAS systems.
  • Duties require occasional surge hours including late nights and weekends to meet customer delivery and support.
  • Routine hours are at Virginia Beach VA, with occasional travel to CONUS locations, including on military installations. OCONUS travel possible.
  • Flexibility to perform other unforeseen duties as assigned.
Required Experience/Qualifications
  • Be able to obtain Part 107 Remote operator Certificate.
  • Experience with one or more of the following, or similar, systems: ArduPilot, ArduPilot Mission Planner, MAVlink protocal, QGroundControl, Mavlink, RFD Tools, Radio Telemetry.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with electronics, radio communications, IT systems, cloud network technologies and protocols.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems as well as identify deficiencies and promote solutions to improve UAS systems performance.
  • Strong understanding of software-defined radios and networking technologies.
  • Experience with cloud networking to include AWS and/or Azure.
  • Must be comfortable working in a multi-vendor environment and integrating best of breed solutions.
  • Ability to work full time in Virginia Beach, VA.
  • Flexibility to work extended-hours and weekends to support mission accomplishment.
  • Self-starting individual with the ability to work independently on issues with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and a strong customer focus
Special Requirements/Security Clearance
  • Active SECRET clearance
Physical Demands
  • Experience and knowledge of the Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS).
  • FPV or other UAS pilot experience.
  • Drone hobbyist with experience assembling drones.
  • Strong secondary experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Machine learning / AI
  • Troubleshooting RF and SATCOM communications in degraded or denied environments.
  • Frequency Management
