Job Description

The R&D Engineering Manager coordinates department activities, either directly or through subordinates, to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures. Manages and directs specialized engineers working on programs to meet organizational needs and to capitalize on new products. Coordinates activities of engineering department to design, manufacture, and test mechanical components, products, and complex systems: Coordinates department activities, through subordinates, to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures. Analyzes technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects. Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products. Forecasts operating costs of department and directs preparation of budget requests. Directs personnel activities of department, such as recruitment, hiring, performance evaluations, and salary adjustments. May direct field testing of products and systems performed by field staff. Responsible for the coordination and completion of projects; sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, and monitors and summarizes progress of project. Familiar with a variety of the mechanical / biomedical engineering field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Have a strong grasp of good design principles and a passion for instilling them in the team. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

This is hybrid position and is based in Largo, Florida.

This position has the opportunity to be leveled up for the right experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Management:

oIdentifies resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities.
oReviews deliverables prepared by team before passing to management.

oPrepares for engagement reviews and quality assurance procedures.
oMinimizes the exposure and risk on project.
oEnsures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
oTracks and reports team hours and project expenses.

oHolds regular status meetings with project team.
oKeeps project team well informed of changes within the organization and general corporate news.
oEffectively communicates relevant project information to superiors.
oDelivers engaging, informative, well-organized presentations.
oResolves and/or escalates issues as appropriate.
oUnderstands how to facilitate communicate difficult/sensitive information.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Four (4) year degree minimum in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.

  • 5+ years product development management experience with 5+ years medical device product development management experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree is highly desirable

  • At least, 5 years of experience managing direct reports preferred
